Are you someone who's always itching to try out new art forms? You know the feeling – you gather all the materials, set up your workspace, and then life swoops in, leaving your creative endeavors hanging in the balance. Sound familiar?
Well, I'm right there with you. I like to think of myself as a professional tryer outer. I dive headfirst into crafts, testing the waters of various artistic pursuits. Some stick around, like gardening, miniature dioramas, cloth art dolls, and painting. Others, well, they don't quite make the cut for my list of favorites. [cough] wood carving… ehem.
But amidst this creative exploration, there's one passion that's become a true cornerstone of my artistic journey: photography. Picture this: a few decades ago, I dipped my toes into the world of photography through basic classes. Back then, venturing beyond seemed like a distant dream, with the hefty price tag of cameras and lenses looming over me. "One day," I thought, "my time will come."
And come it did, in 2023. I finally took the plunge into photography as an art form. Now, I'm not one to bury myself in manuals or drown in tutorials. No, I'm more about grabbing an affordable yet decent camera, finding the right mentor, and diving into the mysteries of aperture, manual shooting, and macro photography.
What's incredible is how seamlessly photography fits into my life. With a love for hiking and exploring gardens, blending my passions was a no-brainer. I carved out time for scheduled practice sessions, embraced failure as part of the process, and dared to step outside my comfort zone.
But here's the thing: I'm not in it for flawless masterpieces. No, I'm all about sharing the journey, flaws and all. My aim isn't to sell my work; it's to throw it out into the universe and say, "This is me, this is what I love doing."
Sure, I'm not striving to be the next Ansel Adams. The uncertainty used to make me squirm, but life's taught me to be comfortable with discomfort. So, I'm ready to roll with it, even if I start off feeling like a clueless fool.
What about you? What artistic pursuits have you dabbled in? Are you ready to take the leap into something new and share your journey with the world? Let's dive in together and see where creativity takes us!
